Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear?

Choosing clothing can be an intimidating task.  I am often asked for suggestions and the best advice I can give is to choose something you love.  Monochromatic themes can be very effective, especially when different textures are incorporated into the outfit.  So can very colorful clothing, as long as one piece isn’t competing with another.

Even though I do a lot of barefoot sessions in the summertime, please dress head-to-toe.  Dark shoes are generally better than light ones - especially for boys - so your eyes won’t be drawn to them in the photo.

Layers are always great as they lend visual interest and variety to the images.  Avoid baggy clothing that can add unwanted pounds and ends up looking sloppy.

For guys, jeans, button-down shirts with the sleeves rolled up, stylized t-shirts (no writing, please), team jerseys, and a casual blazer paired with dark jeans (for a little more formal look) are all good.

For girls, I love the look of skinny jeans with boots, sundresses, and formal or cocktail dresses.  Don’t forget scarves, hats, jewelry, and other accessories.  They really add so much to the photos.  And girls, please make sure your nails are done, or at least left natural and neatly filed as they will show in the head shot images.  Girls in long ball gowns are one of my favorite things to shoot and can look so incredibly romantic.

Lastly, don’t forget to bring any props you might want to use...favorite book, pet, sports ball, musical instrument, etc.  This is YOUR session and should reflect your unique personality!

How and when do I pay?

A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to book your session.  The day of the session you will pay the remainder of the session fee along with the $200 minimum purchase requirement.  Then $200 of that will be applied to your final purchase.  I accept cash, checks, or credit cards.

What if it rains?

95% of my work is done with natural light in outdoor locations. From experience I have learned not to cancel a session until the day of the shoot. The weather forecast is far from reliable and even though it may be raining in the morning, it might be clear enough by afternoon so I don't reschedule unless the weather is obviously bad. I try to give you at least a 3 hour notice. Contrary to what a lot of people think, overcast skies are great for shoots, giving a nice, soft, even light.

When will I see my photos?

I always try to put a couple sneak peeks on my Facebook photography page the same day of the shoot if at all possible. Within 24 hours I will definitely have some edited images online for you to view. Then I will work on setting up a private online viewing album with the proofs.  Within 1 - 2 weeks I will send you the link and the password.

You will have exactly 2 weeks to make your selections and place your order.  The proof album will expire after 2 weeks from the day you receive the link and viewing password.  There is a $50 reloading fee which will be strictly enforced, so please have your selections to me by the time it expires to avoid that charge!  Often, clients feel a bit overwhelmed and need a little guidance in making their choices.  I encourage my clients to set up a time before the album expires to come to my home where we can view them together on my 27” monitor.  We can play with various cropping options and you will get a better idea of available sizes and products from my display wall.

Do I get to choose the locations?

Choosing locations depends first and foremost on light.  Light is key to all photography.  I have many locations that I use throughout the year, all of which change from season to season.  We will talk so I can get an idea of what you envision and then I will make the suggestions I think will produce the most beautiful results.  If you have a particular spot in mind, please let me know and I will do my best to make that happen

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes!  Gift certificates are available in any amount and are good for one year from the date of purchase.

Do you only book senior sessions?

My focus is senior photography as that is where my passion lies.  After a few years of shooting all different types of sessions, I have found that my best work stems from the seniors.  I love the one-on-one time together and having the luxury of focusing on just one person.  My goal is to capture each of my client’s unique personality in every session and to create memories that will be treasured for many years to come.

I do book a limited number of maternity, engagement, and boudoir sessions per year.  Please contact me for more information on those sessions.
